“ But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.” Hebrews 10:39
While getting ready for work this morning, the Lord dropped these words in my spirit. Specifically; “We are not of them who draw back unto perdition.” It kept on resounding within me and I had to quickly look it up. I needed to read the couple verses prior to really gain an understanding as to why I am not of them who draw back unto perdition. I love the Gods Word translation that says: “We don’t belong with those who turn back and are destroyed. Instead, we belong with those who have faith and are saved.”Hebrews 10:39. To draw back here, can speak of drawing back in faith, drawing back in our hope and our confidence. If our hope is in Christ, the scripture is encouraging us not to turn back on our faith but rather, to press on.
Verse 38 of the same scripture, according to GW translation states: “The person who has God’s approval will live by faith. But if he turns back, I will not be pleased with him.” Or as we know by the King James translation, “The just shall live by faith.” These words spoke volumes to me. We really do live by faith. Sometimes we go to God about our issues in life, asking for His hand to be seen. As human beings we’re so prone to rely on our 5 senses to determine the course of things based on what we see with our physical eyes. This isn’t how faith works and this isn’t the kind of life God has called us to. We are not a people who rely on what our physical eyes can see, but a people through great faith, BELIEVE and rely on the God we serve and what he has promised us. “We don’t belong to those who turn back.” We belong to those who press on. Why? Because of the finished work Christ did on the cross. He said “it is finished.” That means every burden you carry on your back has already been dealt with. Sometimes we don’t realize that when we fail to hold on to Him, our only hope, through an unwavering faith, we add on unnecessary burdens that have already been dealt with on the cross.
God is such a merciful God because Faith takes us places we never knew existed. Heb 10:35 says “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” I just want to encourage anyone reading this right now to never lose hope. There is much reward available to us just by living in faith. It sounds so simple right? Truth is It is. By His grace! It only feels difficult when we draw back & allow the feelings of the flesh rule. But as we walk in faith and we walk in the spirit, every step feels lighter and easier. In the end, we want to live a life completely pleasing unto God and it can never be done if our faith is not secure. So let go of whatever burden you’re carrying right now and press on in faith. Because He who has promised is faithful and He is not a man that He should go back on His word.
Prayer: “Lord your word tells me not to be like those who draw back unto perdition, but to believe to the saving of our souls.” I don’t want to feel destroyed spiritually. Therefore, I ask that you allow me to see you even in the pain. To believe in what your word says. I pray you help me to be pleasing to you by never losing confidence in you. Your rewards are full of life and I seek to partake of that Life that encompasses all of who you are. Thank you for the strenght you have given me to keep on going even when my flesh is weak. For your strenght is made perfect in my weakness. In Jesus name, Amen!
