I woke up this morning asking God to reveal to me ways in which i may grow speedily and rightfully in Him. I was lead to read 1st Corinthians chapter 3. I was especially drawn to verse 12-15, which speaks of our core foundation being Jesus Christ and alongside, the importance of what we choose to build over this core foundation.
What we build over our foundation which is already laid, (Jesus Christ) strongly determines how strong we stand through the testings of our faith. “Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each ones work will become clear.” 1 Corinthians 3:12 NKJV. Every motive, every deed, and every word is material for our spiritual house. The materials here all represent the strenght and quality of the things some may build over this foundation. When the Bible talks about gold it is said to be good. (Genesis 2, 11-12) Gold is precious, valuable and rare. It is also not easily curriptible. Wood, hay and straw on the other hand is weak, easily removable and easily destroyed.
So speaking practically, when we build with gold it means we are meditating on the scriptures day and night, it means we are praying without ceasing. (Not only when it is convinient.) Building with gold also means exposing yourself and giving your time to things that build you up spiritually. If its not building you up, it is pulling you down. In turn, When one builds with hay or straw they may build with unrefined hearts, fear, or they may build living on the fence. They are not 100% for God. Resulting in lack of understanding and sometimes compromise.
Verse 13 says “each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.”
Fire will test the quality of each persons walk with Christ. What we have chosen to invest into our relationship with Jesus can either cause us to stand boldly or crumble when we go through testings and trials. I am determined to build with top quality, enduring materials, Invest my time into things that help my foundation blossom into something worthy before God.
